- ·VANYA (50+) — Soft spoken, a closet gay, resigned to his lot in life but with deep passion that emerges toward the end of the play.
- ·SONIA (50+) — Vanya and Masha's adopted sister. Bitter about what life has thrown at her, jealous of her more glamorous sister, but sees new possibilities through the play.
- ·MASHA (50+) — A glamorous and successful actress desperately trying to hold onto her youth.
- ·SPIKE (30+) — An aspiring actor and Masha's much younger lover. Sexy and self-absorbed. Must appear on stage in underwear.
- ·NINA (20s–30s) — A lovely, sincere would-be actress visiting relatives nearby, an admirer of Masha's work who becomes fond of the entire family. More spirited than she first appears.
- ·CASSANDRA (50+) — The occasional housekeeper. Acerbic, slightly psychic, and more than slightly unhinged — or is she? Switches from housekeeper to quoter of philosophers in a semi-trance-like state. Practices a bit of voodoo. A gem of a role.
