Directed by Colin Anderson. Musical direction by John D. Roberts.
With plenty of friends but little money, Susy Branch and her friend Nick Lansing devise a clever scheme to live beyond their means. They'll marry and live off the wedding gifts while they help one another secure more suitable millionaire spouses. The plan works perfectly, until they fall in love.

- ·SUSY BRANCH (late 20s) — Bright, pretty, and practical. Born into society, but her father's gambling habit and untimely death left her dependent on wealthy friends who appreciate her grace, charm, and enthusiasm.
- ·WINTHROP "STREFFY" STREFFORD (30–50) — British and proper, fourth in line to inherit a title and fortune. A gossipy, selfish, but fun career freeloader, long secretly in love with Susy and settled for being her friend and confidante.
- ·ELLIE VANDERLYN (late 40s) — A self-absorbed, attractive, ambitious wealthy society matron used to getting whatever she likes.
- ·NELSON VANDERLYN (50–60) — A successful banker who, despite 20 years of mistreatment, remains steadfastly in love with Ellie.
- ·URSULA GILLOW (late 40s) — A vain society matron, even richer than the Vanderlyns, with a longstanding rivalry with Ellie. (Same actor plays Coral.)
- ·NICK LANSING (30s) — A romantic, passionate scholar of classical archeology who dreams of writing historical novels. Born rich, now without sufficient funds, but with an old fashioned moral strength.
- ·CORAL HICKS (20s) — A frowsy, over-educated Midwestern heiress. Serious, awkward, and socially inept; she knows everything in books and nothing about human interaction.
- ·MAID (20–40) — Female. A servant at the Vanderlyns' Newport mansion.
- ·THE CABARET SINGER (40s–70s) — A guest-starring part with a one-song walk-on and a few lines, requiring minimal preparation.
