ABOUT THE SHOW

With the houselights down, a man in a chair puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life as he looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, and an intoxicated chaperone for an evening of madcap delight.

ROLES AVAILABLE

Note: Characters marked with ** are open casting — not limited to original gender/age outline.

  • ·THE MAN IN THE CHAIR (**) — Musical theatre aficionado and narrator. Introverted, melancholy, slightly agoraphobic. Finds solace listening to his favorite 1928 record.
  • ·JANET VAN DE GRAAFF — Star of Feldzieg's Follies, conflicted about leaving the stage to marry Robert. Vivacious, triple threat, strong dancer with special skills.
  • ·ROBERT MARTIN — The groom. Debonair, dashing, cheesy, and optimistic. Must tap dance and roller skate.
  • ·THE DROWSY CHAPERONE — Janet's alcoholic confidante. Care-free, melodramatic diva who steals every scene. A woman of the world who couldn't care less what anyone thinks.
  • ·ALDOLPHO — Latin lothario. Confident, vigorous buffoon. Fake Spanish/Italian accent and vaudeville-style acting required.
  • ·MRS. TOTTENDALE — Wealthy, flighty, eccentric widow hosting the wedding. Charming, bubbly, oblivious.
  • ·UNDERLING (**) — Mrs. Tottendale's unflappable butler. Stoic, dry, sarcastic.
  • ·MR. FELDZIEG — Harried producer trying to stop the wedding to keep Janet in the Follies. Nervous, sarcastic, overbearing.
  • ·KITTY (**) — Mr. Feldzieg's companion who will do anything to be the star.
  • ·GEORGE — Robert's anxious best man. Loyal, sincere, nervous. Must tap dance.
  • ·GANGSTERS (**) — Two jovial gangsters posing as pastry chefs. Good comic timing and dancing required.
  • ·TRIX THE AVIATRIX (**) — Brave and brash aviator. Sassy, sleek, take-charge.
