WHAT TO PREPARE
  • ·Two contrasting cuts in the style of the show (contemporary musical theatre or pop-rock), not to exceed 3 minutes total
  • ·Bring a headshot and resume (appreciated but not required)
COMPENSATION

Blank Canvas Theatre dedicates 20% of net profit to the cast, split evenly. AEA contracts may be explored for this production.

REHEARSALS

Begin September 14. Sundays–Thursdays, typically 7:00–10:00pm (Sundays usually 6:00–10:00pm).

CASTING NOTE

Strongly encourages performers of all genders, gender identities, races, and backgrounds. Teen roles: actors ages 16–25 who can pass for teen characters on stage. Adult roles: ages 30–60.

ROLES AVAILABLE
  • ·CARRIE WHITE (G3–E5) — Shy outsider with telekinetic power. Bullied by classmates, controlled by her mother. When pushed too far, she unleashes.
  • ·MARGARET WHITE (adult, G3–G5) — Carrie's mother. Fervent religious convictions balanced with visceral maternal love. A woman of extremes.
  • ·SUE SNELL (A3–E5) — Popular girl who feels remorse after participating in bullying and tries to do the right thing.
  • ·TOMMY ROSS (A2–C5) — Popular athlete and budding poet. Sensitive beneath the jock exterior. Sue's boyfriend.
  • ·CHRIS HARGENSEN (E3–E5) — Rich, spoiled queen bee. Believes rules don't apply to her. Leader of the bullies.
  • ·BILLY NOLAN (A2–C5) — Sexy bad boy, easily manipulated by Chris.
  • ·NORMA (E3–E5) — Mean girl, gossipy, tomboy qualities. Chris's best friend and authority suck-up.
  • ·FRIEDA (E3–G5) — Sue's brainy friend. Get-along follower and extracurricular volunteer.
  • ·HELEN (E3–G5) — Giggly, slightly nerdy. Herd mentality follower.
  • ·GEORGE (A2–C5) — Tommy's jock wingman and Frieda's boyfriend.
  • ·STOKES (A2–C5) — Nerdy, happy to be included in Tommy's friend group.
  • ·FREDDY (A2–C5) — Slick, wise-cracking, immature follower.
  • ·MISS LYNN GARDENER (adult, E3–C#5) — Girls' P.E. teacher. Strict disciplinarian with maternal instincts to protect Carrie.
  • ·MR. STEPHENS (adult, A2–G4) — Well-intentioned English teacher and guidance counselor. Stretched thin and underpaid.
  • ·REVEREND BLISS (adult, C3–G4) — Local preacher on WORD radio. Can be played by the same actor as Mr. Stephens.
  • ·ENSEMBLE — Various styles and personalities representing the Chamberlain student body.
